La pomme Granny Smith était cultivée pour la première fois en 1868, à Sydney, en Australie, par Maria Ann Smith. Cette grand-mère (granny) a donné son nom à ce fruit exquis et polyvalent. Se distingue par sa coloration verte parfois lavée de reflets jaunâtre. Chair très ferme, acidulée, croustillante et de couleur crème; peau assez épaisse.
