Cooking Apple
Raised by Taylor at King's Newton, Melbourne, Derbyshire in 1887. Said to be from Dumelow's Seedling x Blenheim Orange. Received First Class Certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1887. A well-known cooking apple rather too highly coloured but nevertheless still quite popular. Recommended for its heavy yields of fine flavoured fruit. The fruit is juicy, acid and boils down to a golden fluff. Fruit size is very large. Picking time mid-October.
