Description Variétale

Plante touffue à fines feuilles creuses, vertes et pointues de 12 à 15 cm de hauteur. La ciboulette est vivace et se consomme en accompagnement des salades, omelettes, sauces et fromages blancs.

Semis

Semer en place, en lignes espacées de 20 cm ou mieux en bordure d’une allée à 1 cm de profondeur. Levée 10 à 15 jours.

Opérations en culture

Diviser les pieds-mères en touffes et replanter en Mars/Avril en groupant quelques touffes.

Récolte

Récolter d’Avril à Novembre. L’hiver, on peut continuer à récolter en protégeant les plantes dès les premiers froids. Couper périodiquement les tiges, elles repousseront plus fines et plus vigoureuses.

Astuces

La ciboulette, cultivée près des pommes de terre, protège ces-dernières des doryphores.

Description

Chives are a perennial herb which if carefully harvested will give you plenty of aromatic leaves over many years. Pretty flowers that attract beneficial insects it can be grown in a flower border or in pots.

Sowing instructions

Sow from February through to April. Does extremely well grown in pots which could be left just outside the kitchen door for quick access to fresh herbs.

Growing technique

Can be divided when large enough simply split the plant with a spade and replant. Keep well watered and keep clear of weeds.

Harvesting

Harvest from the April through to November. If protected from the frosts you should be able to carry on collecting the leaves all winter. Periodically trim the plant back quite heavily to encourage new growth of finer more vigorous leaves.

Other Advice

A good companion plant for potatoes, if you interplant chives amongst your potato crop this should protect the potatoes from the nasty Colorado Beetle
