Description
This could come from another planet. It’s shaped like a little mince pie all the way down to the serrated edges. Creamy white skin colour gives this fruit a quite ornamental feel and could be a lot of fun for children.
Sowing instructions
Sow into individual pots from April or sow directly in beds on the 15th of May (don’t ask why the 15th that’s just what it says on the packaging).
Growing technique
Plant out in May (ON MAY 15th REMEMBER) leaving adequate distance between plants (approx 1m). When planting dig larger holes than needed and fill with good compost. The plant requires plenty of water but to prevent rotting of the fruit and other possible problems water at the base of the plant only. It may also help to mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture. Raise the fruit off the ground and support it on a bed of straw to prevent rotting.
Harvesting
Regularly harvest the fruit from the plant trying to pick the fruit whilst still small (try not to let them grow into marrows!!), this will help to keep the plant fruiting for as long as possible.
Other Advice
The white squash has a taste somewhere between an artichoke and could be stored like cornichons in vinegar
