Description Variétale

Fruit de forme ovoïde de grosseur moyenne et très nombreux. Chair ferme et douce de très bonne qualité.

Semis

Semer fin février/mars sous abri chauffé (16/20° C.). D’avril à mai sous abri non chauffé ou en pleine terre à bonne exposition.

Opérations en culture

Repiquer au stade de 3-4 feuilles en godets placés sous châssis. Plantation en pleine terre en mai, à 60 cm sur rang et 80 cm entre rangs. Conserver 1 seule tige en supprimant les pousses secondaires à l’aisselle des feuilles. Poser des tuteurs pour soulager la plante.

Récolte

Récolter de Juillet à Octobre.

Astuces

Cultivé près de la tomate, le basilic éloigne les nématodes de cette dernière. Quant à la tomate, elle protège le navet de l'altise'.

Description

Elongated ovoid shaped tomato that has been cultivated specifically for sauces, from pizza base’s to adding to chilli con carni, pasta and of course the much love tomato ketchup. There is no better way of getting children to eat fresh vegetables than making home made ketchup. This variety is perfect for making pomodoro sauce which can be made fresh and kept for short periods of time in the fridge or frozen for longer.

Sowing instructions

Sow from February to March in a heated greenhouse or inside close to a radiator, or from April to May in seed trays.

Growing technique

Lift and plant after the plant has reached about 4 adult leaves in height. This can be done into pots if it is still early in the season or in rows in the vegetable beds from late April to May. Water and weed regularly, stake the plants with a tall tomato stake or bamboo cane.

Harvesting

Fruits are ready to harvest from July to October.

Other Advice

Companion plant with basil as the tomatoes help to keep slugs away from the fine leaves of the basil plant.
